Three Infield Support Vessels for the World’s Largest Floating Offshore Facility
We are proud to announce that KT Maritime, Teekay Australia’s joint venture with KOTUG International B.V., has been awarded the contract to supply specialized tugs known as Infield Support Vessels (ISVs) for the Shell Prelude Floating LNG Facility – the world’s largest floating offshore facility. The project involves the design, building and operation of three new vessels to support Shell’s multi-billion dollar investment in floating LNG extraction. The contract to supply the ISVs is for a fixed ten year term with options for a further five years.
Shell has selected the innovative RotorTug design, ART 100-42 which was developed with our joint venture partners Kotug. The vessels are 42 meters in length and 100 tonne Bollard Pull. The RotorTug system provides standard harbor tug maneuverability to large size tugs on extended deployments. Its unique configuration and unique vessel handling qualities minimize risks, ensure smooth operations and enhances overall safety of the operation.

About KT Maritime
One of the markets identified for growth of Teekay’s business in Australia is towage. As a result Teekay Australia formed a Joint Venture with KOTUG International B.V., the Dutch towage company. This has proved to be an extremely beneficial arrangement, with Kotug’s reputation for quality and deep knowledge of tug design, complementing Teekay Australia’s understanding of the local market and proven operational capability based on our management of the towage operations in Hay Point and Port Hedland. The two companies have formed KT Maritime to pursue new business opportunities, especially in the growing market for towage services to support LNG exports.
In the following video, Jamie Anderson, Business Development Manager, tells us more about Teekay Australia’s joing venture with Kotug and the innovative features of the RotorTug Design.
