12 Vessels are Expected to Fall Under Teekay Australia Management
Capesize bulkers Minnehaha, Silver Surfer, and Portage are now under the management of Teekay Australia. Teekay Australia was appointed technical manager of CarVal Investment Funds’ capesize cargo fleet, of which Teekay is both a partner and investor. In Q2-2014, Teekay Corporation also signed a letter of intent with CarVal investors outlining Teekay’s participation in the development of a dry bulk shipping company.
- MV Minehaha came under TKA management at 1900LT on July 27, 2015, in Luhuashan anchorage, Shanghai, China.
- MV Silver Surfer was taken over at 1200LT on July 29, 2015 in Kakogawa, Japan.
- MV Portage was taken over at 2000 LT on September 3, 2015 at ASRY Shipyard, Bahrain.
Minnehaha, Silver Surfer, and Portage make up three of the twelve vessels being transitioned under the management of Teekay Australia. The rest of the vessels are expected to be progressively transferred by the end of 2015.
The transfer of the cape bulkers are a great example of the global Teekay team working in sync to secure positive outcomes for Teekay and its partners. Outstanding work has also been done by the team in Australia who has provided excellent ship management of dry cargo vessels owned by BHP Billiton Ltd. and other third party customers since 2002.
Overall, vessel operations, Marine HR, Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ), Procurement, IT, as well as other departments have done a commendable job in making all capesize handovers successful. Effective management and Teekay Spirit are surely a winning combination!
Want to learn about the vessels who have already come under the management of Teekay Australia? Teekay saw the delivery of MV Pretty earlier this summer, while MV Maka Franz was the second bulk carrier to be delivered.
