Manila Seafarer’s Conference: Operating the Best Ships in the Industry
October 14, 2015
By Working Together, We Will Operate the Best Ships in the Industry
September 20, 2015 marked Teekay Tankers’ second seafarer conference in Manila, Philippines. In attendance, Teekay Tanker’s leadership team, shore representatives and 78 seafarers from around the globe. The three-day conference, held at Makati Diamond Residences, presented a unique opportunity for alignment behind Teekay’s “One Tanker Team” philosophy. It also offered a platform for meaningful exchange between sea and shore staff amidst recent growth in the tanker segment.
As announced late this summer, Teekay Tankers agreed to acquire 12 modern Suezmax tankers from Principal Maritime Tankers (Principal). The integration of the new vessels will make Teekay Tankers one of the largest owners of Suezmax tankers in the world. With vessels expecting to be delivered this October, the conference was a great way for seafarers to both embrace and prepare for Teekay’s growing tanker fleet.
Shore representatives delivered critical information that drove alignment on Teekay Tankers’ main objective: “by working together, we will operate the best ships in the industry.” Attendees engaged in discussion surrounding changes in the industry, operational priorities, safe & efficient operations, transparent communications, business integrity, performance and technical job components.
An award evening was also held to honor seafarers for their years of service. Their dedication is what has maintained Teekay as a respected symbol of quality.
Overall, the conference further strengthened both the alignment behind “One Tanker Team” and the relationship between sea and shore-based staff. A combination of competence, enthusiasm and Teekay Spirit is a testament to the growth we aspire to achieve within the tanker segment.
