January 15, 2015
In the early morning of 11 January 2015, Teekay’s first Unit for Maintenance and Safety (UMS), the Arendal Spirit, left the Cosco Nantong Shipyard in Shanghai, China to commence sea trials. This is an important milestone for Teekay Offshore as it signifies both innovative growth and Teekay’s ability to diversify its business portfolio. Prior to Teekay’s acquisition of Logitel Offshore Holdings, the Arendal Spirit secured a three-year fixed-rate charter contract, plus extension options, with Petrobras in Brazil. With commencement of sea trials, the UMS is well on track to be delivered on schedule. Arendal Spirit is built on Sevan Marine’s innovative cylindrical hull design. The hull shape provides better stability, less seasickness, more storage space and higher uptime. The UMS has the capacity to accommodate 500 persons and is a significant alternative to existing offshore accommodation solutions. Teekay’s second UMS, the Stavanger Spirit, is currently under construction. Delivery is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2015.
