Teekay’s Second LNG MEGI Newbuilding is Taking Shape
June 3rd marked the keel laying ceremony of Oak Spirit, Teekay’s second LNG newbuilding vessel powered with M-type, Electronically Controlled, Gas Injection (MEGI) twin engines. The vessel is currently under construction at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) shipyard in South Korea and is expected to be delivered by mid-2016. Upon completion, the vessel will be on a five-year time-charter contract with Cheniere.
The 173,000 cubic meter LNG newbuilding will be Teekay’s second of nine LNG newbuildings with MEGI engines to be built at DSME. Two additional LNG MEGI newbuildings will be built at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard.
