The TK Foundation: a Fitting Legacy of Teekay Founder Torben Karlshoej
October 24, 2016
A Lasting Impact
Did you know that Teekay’s largest shareholder by far is a charitable trust (Kattegat) created out of various trusts established by Teekay’s Founder, Torben Karlshoej, prior to his death in 1992?
Kattegat receives shareholder dividends from Teekay which are reinvested in other assets, a portion of which are subsequently distributed to The TK Foundation, a private independent charitable trust of which Kattegat is the sole funder.
The TK Foundation’s mission is to fulfill Torben’s legacy by enabling disadvantaged youth to succeed and promoting maritime education and safety. It does so through various global funding and investing initiatives. More information on the great work of The TK Foundation can be found here.
Recently, we asked Torben’s nephew, Jesper Karlshoej, to report on some of the great work of The TK Foundation. We will be sharing these reports with as many people as possible, because at Teekay, we are proud that our hard work ultimately supports these initiatives.
