Story 2 – Katty Wu Wu

Holding a mug that says, “This calls for a new spreadsheet!”, I smile and look back to the memory of my younger self and all the expectations I had when I first joined Teekay as a financial analyst.

While I am comfortable with speaking in English, Spanish, and Mandarin, numbers speak more to me. But don’t let my passion for numbers fool you; I was also a part of the social committee when I first joined and have been an active mentor, mentee, and speaker in Teekay’s employee-development initiatives over the years. One example comes to mind.

In 2021, we rallied all the women in Teekay who are thriving and making a difference in their respective departments. I was honored to be a part of the group and shared my experience with our global teams. Being in a highly collaborative environment where everyone is committed to delivering quality work, I never once felt unheard or undervalued. In fact, my leaders and peers have constantly encouraged me to be open to challenge and to challenge the norm.

Because of this, I continue to be curious and because of our Teamwork, we continue to celebrate each other’s professional and personal milestones. From negotiations, strategy development, research, and evaluations, my team have always relied on each other to be curious, to collaborate, and to think outside the box.

I believe that’s the kind of mindset that helps a company – and an individual – grow. We are all part of a team, and every role is just as important. 

Looking back, I fully appreciate the culture that we have cultivated for decades. It always made me feel like I belong; like I am heard. Like I am home.

Since 1973, he surrounded himself with formidable and passionate teams that allowed me to grow from a small chartering business to an ever-evolving, publicly traded, global Tankers and Marine Energy business.

Throughout my voyage that has lasted for more than half a century—and still going strong!—I have had a diversified portfolio reaching at least four publicly traded companies, numerous joint ventures, amazing teams, and unforgettably fun moments, while weathering economic uncertainties, and even a pandemic!

As I was founded on leadership that is built on leaving a legacy beyond one’s tenure, my experienced teams across continents have always performed with their commitment to excellence and upholding my SPIRIT values, the values that bind us all.

I can continue telling you more about my journey, but I want you to experience it through the voices of my family who truly represents me and what I am all about. Each month, you will hear from a different person about who they are, what they believe in, and why they chose to join me on my voyage.
