Each year, Teekay and its employees worldwide work with their local charities of choice. Teekay Vancouver has long partnered with Junior Achievement of BC (JABC), a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching young people about business. Beyond financial support, Teekay Vancouver provides mentors for JABC’s Company Program. Company Program helps secondary school students understand the role of business in society. During the course of the program, students create and operate a real business of their own. Recently, a number of Teekay Vancouver employees spent 16 weeks mentoring 22 young entrepreneurs. The youth established TumbleME, a company designing and selling customizable travel mugs. With the help of their mentors, the students systematically solved actual business challenges; identifying a viable business idea, implementing a management team, raising capital, forecasting sales and revenue, creating budgets and executing on sales and marketing plans. At the recent JABC awards ceremony, TumbleME won for Best Sales & Marketing Strategy and for Environmental Stewardship.
