On February 16, Teekay took delivery of its first Unit for Maintenance and Safety (UMS), the Arendal Spirit. The vessel has been under construction at the COSCO shipyard in China during 2014. She has secured a 3-year charter contract, including extension options, for Petrobras in Brazil. Operations are scheduled to commence during the first half of 2015.
Towage from China to Brazilian waters will be carried out by a heavy lift vessel. This will ensure that the long distance towing is carried out in a safe, sustainable and cost-efficient manner.
The UMS contains 500 beds in 248 cabins with en-suite bathrooms, daylight windows, television, internet and telephone connections, lounge areas, coffee shop, television and game room, fitness room, dining room, office areas, meeting/conference room and cinema.
