The Most Advanced Deep-Water Research Vessel Ever Built
Last year, we shared Teekay Australia’s involvement in the construction of the Investigator – the most advanced deep-water research vessel ever built. So, what does the quietest research vessel actually sound like? Below we have two audio files. One is the actual acoustic recording of the Investigator; the other of a ‘normal ship.’ Both are measured using a hydrophone on the bottom of the sea at about 40m and the ship is run past the hydrophone at a distance of about 100m at 11knots. Most of the noise on the Investigator tape was noise being developed by shrimps or prawns who were in the area. Listen and see if you can tell which vessel is which!
