Wondering What It Takes to Create an FPSO LEGO Model?
Our team in the Trondheim office have a true passion for LEGO bricks – remember the Knarr FPSO LEGO model? They are back at it again. This time they built FPSO Voyageur Spirit – one of Teekay’s Cylindrical SEVAN 300 units. In real size, Voyageur Spirit has a diameter of 60 meters. The LEGO model was designed in 1:300 scale. But before the bricks can be put together, it takes few months of preparation.
First step is to model the FPSO in a 3D program specialized on LEGO. The model is designed with bricks that are available for purchase. When the model is done, certain bricks and parts get replaced to maintain the cost down. But then the challenge starts – finding all the pieces in the market. Luckily, finding the best combination of stores that sell the bricks needed is done through a program that downloads a in index of all queried stories. All the parts were purchased from five different stores in four different countries.
As the team waited for the all pieces to be shipped, they created their own building instructions. It takes some patience and dedication to put together, but the end result is well worth it. 1300 LEGO bricks turned into our very own FPSO Voyageur Spirit:
