25 Feet of Newly Created Oyster Reef!
On May 19, 2017, our Houston and Freeport offices joined forces and teamed up with the Galveston Bay Foundation on their Oyster Reef Restoration project. The group gathered prepared oyster shells (collected via GBF’s Oyster Recycling Program) into mesh bags which were then transported through thigh deep water to continue work on the oyster reef construction.
The hardworking group of ten volunteers packed 1.6 metric tons of oyster shells and with the addition of bags that had already been prepared by other groups, laid 2.94 metric tons of oyster shell bags along 25 feet of newly created oyster reef. We are so proud of the team who took opportunity to give back to our local marine community. TOGETHER we can make a difference!
