December 17, 2020
In a typical year, at the end of December, we pause to reflect on our favourite moments of the year. While we can’t pretend that 2020 has been a typical year, much has been accomplished by our incredible colleagues around the world – even during a global pandemic.
In 2020, our yearly recap commemorates moments of resilience, adaptability, teamwork, and dedication from across the company throughout the year. Here, we look back and celebrate all we have achieved together.
But first, we want to extend our sincerest gratitude to our seafaring staff. We acknowledge the challenges overcome and sacrifices made by our colleagues at sea and are continually impressed by your unwavering excellence. Our sea staff are a shining example of what it means to put safety first, and to live our SPIRIT values every day.
To all of our shore staff – from our Marine HR teams who were challenged to conduct crew changes amidst global lockdown, to our global IT team who kept our business online while many of us worked remotely, and every colleague who remained resilient in such a volatile year, THANK YOU.
And of course, our appreciation goes out to our customers, investors, and partners for their continued support and contributions throughout the year.
Without further ado, we would like to reflect on the following moments and accomplishments from this most unusual year.
Innovation in the Year of Pandemic
Unprecedented times called for unprecedented measures – namely, finding new ways to collaborate remotely and harnessing digital tools to help increase safety and performance on board our vessels.
“Overnight, we switched into a virtual world. We rolled out new digital tools. And when we look back at the goals that we had set for the year, we accomplished all of them. It’s been an extraordinary effort – We’ve done it! And I am so grateful for everyone.” – Kenneth Hvid, Teekay Corporation’s President and CEO

Coming Together while Staying Apart
Even while many of our office staff worked remotely, we found ways to embrace virtual connection with Teekay Spirit.
“We’ve proven that we are a resilient organization that is able to adapt to a rapidly changing world and that’s going to serve us well going forward. Even though we’ve been physically apart from each other, in some ways, I actually feel like we are closer as a result of how we worked together and how we have found new ways to connect with each other.” – Vince Lok, Executive Vice President and CFO of Teekay Group

Stories at Sea
At sea, we celebrated big project milestones, and reflected up on new beginnings.
“Although it’s been probably the most challenging year any of us have ever faced, it’s also been a fantastic year in terms of performance. Thank you to all of the people across all of our vessels and offices who rose to that challenge and really made the best of a challenging situation.” – Kevin MacKay, President and CEO, Teekay Tankers

Good News in Unprecedented Times
Lastly, we end on a high note by celebrating two of the year’s achievements. In 2020, Teekay’s turned 47, and we marked the occasion with a virtual gathering. We also announced our commitment to the UN Global Compact – the world’s biggest corporate sustainability initiative.
“We often celebrate the year’s accomplishments in terms of the deals we’ve made, the time charters we’ve booked, etc., But, that’s not what I think about when I reflect on 2020. When I look back at this year, I am so proud of everybody at Teekay on shore and at sea – for the dedication, the caring for one another that I’ve seen throughout the entire organization. You’ve all done it – we made it!”- William Hung, Executive Vice President, Strategic Development
