The Torben Spirit recently saved a solo sailor in distress on a sailing vessel approximately 220 miles south east of Bermuda.
The sailing vessel, MUJIAN, was without engine or electrical power and drifting for some time when the Torben Spirit received the distress alert from the US Coast Guard. Upon arrival at the scene, the crew were quick to derive a rescue plan to bring the sailor onboard. Medical assistance was given as a precaution and the Torben Spirit proceeded towards Bermuda to disembark the stricken sailor before continuing her passage.
This marks the second rescue in the past year for the Torben Spirit, who also provided MEDIVAC Assistance to a Spanish flagged fishing vessel off the coast of Namibia in July of 2020.
We are proud to acknowledge the crew onboard the Torben Spirit on their vigilance and demonstrating the core values of seamanship to help others in peril. The US Coast Guard has officially commended the crew for outstanding seamanship and unwavering commitment to safety of life at sea. Thank you team Torben Spirit!
