In 2017, Teekay Tankers launched a digital project, the Vessel Balance Scorecard (VBS), that transformed the way vessels quantify their performance on board.
The VBS is a dashboard that collects data generated by operations systems everyday into one digital report. This report reflects a bird’s eye view of how the fleet is performing. Because the VBS is systems driven, we can compute data in real-time without adding extra work to the crew on board.
Since the establishment of the VBS, we have seen positive improvements across the board as more and more vessels set new benchmarks for operational excellence. We were inspired to establish The President’s Award: an annual award to celebrate vessels that demonstrate outstanding performance, to promote excellence in performance standards, and to encourage our teams onboard to strive for a higher standard.
