December 10, 2021
Here we are at the end of 2021 – another unprecedented year for the books, and the perfect time to pause and reflect.
We would like to extend our gratitude to our Teekay colleagues around the world for all you have accomplished in 2021. A special thank you goes out to our seafaring staff who continue to face Covid-19 related challenges along with the entire Maritime community. We acknowledge your hard work, dedication, and see you living with #TeekaySpirit every day.
Our appreciation also goes out to our customers, investors, and partners for their continued support and contribution throughout the year.
Without further ado, here are our top moments from 2021 in review: from rescues at sea, to major announcements, and making Teekay history, we did it all together.
Charting A New Course
In 2021, we closed some chapters and opened some new ones.
We said goodbye to our gas business with the acquisition of Teekay LNG by Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners. On December 1, we announced that Teekay LNG received all required shareholder approvals to complete the merger which is currently anticipated to close mid-January 2022.
We also bid farewell to the Petrojarl Banff FPSO in May as part of our continued efforts to wind down our FPSO segment.
In plotting a new course for Teekay’s future, we secured a new contract with the Australian Department of Defence to provide marine services for five existing vessels. This contract expands Teekay’s relationship and business offering to the Commonwealth of Australia for years to come.
Supporting Seafarers
We are forever grateful for the invaluable work our sea colleagues do to bring energy to the world. This year, we supported multiple initiatives aimed at supporting the world’s seafarers in the wake of Covid-19 related challenges and amplified voices of our seafaring colleagues.
- Teekay Welcomes US-Based Seafarer Covid-19 Vaccination Access
- Seafarer Day 2021: Reflecting on a #FairFuture4Seafarers
- Celebrating World Maritime Day 2021: Seafarers at the Core of Shipping’s Future
- Teekay Gas Signs Maritime UK’s ‘Mental Health in Maritime’ Pledge
We also brought together our sea and shore employees across the globe for a Teekay first: the ‘Future Of’ Summit. The online event saw more than 1,500 attendees from 43 counties come together to foster and inspire ideas for Teekay’s future. The success of that summit inspired the launch of our first-ever virtual Tankers’ Senior Officers Conference – allowing our senior officers to connect after in-person conferences were put on hold in 2020 due to the pandemic.
Answering the Call of the Sea
All Teekay seafarers abide by the code of the sea – to help those in need. Our seafaring colleagues’ commitment to safety extends far beyond our own vessels and crew, and this year, we saw many examples of this:
- Emerald Spirit Rescued Four Sailors in Distress Near Ecuador
- Torben Spirit Rescued a Solo Sailor Near Bermuda
- Aspen Spirit Rescues Two Near the Straits of Gibraltar
- ADV Ocean Protector Assisted a Cargo Ship at Christmas Island
- Lobito Cares for Stowaway Cat and Kittens
Featuring First-Hand Accounts from Sea
Our seafarers are always sharing their #TeekaySpirit, loud and proud. They balance hard work and fun and take pride in sharing their experiences and stories – and we relish the opportunity to pass them the mic! Enjoy these stories featuring first-hand accounts from our colleagues at sea:
